The 75th annual Golden Globes Awards will be airing tonight on NBC at 8 p.m. Eastern time for all to see. The award show this year will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, and will be hosted by Seth Meyers.
Many anticipate that the mood of this year’s Golden Globes Award Show will be a controversial and moody.
Over the course of the last year, Hollywood has been hit with some controversy surrouding the recent spur of sexual misconduct in the industry, as many celebrities have come forward with accussations recently. To say that Hollywood has not taken a hit, or has not been greatly affected by these accussations, is a lie.
Similarly, Hollywood has also taken a hit with racial and gender inequalities, as many A-listers have begun speaking out against these inequalities. Once again, giving Hollywood a run for their money.
With so many issues coming into question in the Hollywood industry, this year’s award show is one that you should not miss out on.
While past Golden Globes’ red carpets have often been filled with glitzy and glamorous outfits, things have changed. This year, we are anticipating the Golden Globes to be draped in all black, as actresses, actors, and activists are wishing to make a statement in the support of these injustices, specifically sexual harrassment, that many women and men have encountered in Hollywood. A handful of actresses and actors, who will be attending the event, have confirmed that they will be wearing black in support of movements, such as #METOO and #TIMESUP. Whether the black dress code will be effective to protest these crimes is still up for question.
Actresses, such as Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams, have already announced that they will be attending the event with activists, including the founder of the #METOO movement.
The big elephant in the room is whether or not Harvey Weinstein’s indiscretions will be addressed. Weinstein, who has often been the focus of the award show and is always seated at the prime table, is now on everyone’s mind, as he has been accussed of sexual harassment by many women, leading to the fall of his previous Hollywood studio, Weinstein Company. Whether or not his faults will be addressed is still up in the air.
With all this commotion clouding the minds of viewers and attendees, no one truly knows what to expect this year, other than Oprah Winfrey winning the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement. Last year’s winner, Meryl Streep, who will also be attending the event, delivered a somewhat aggressive acceptance speech towards Donald Trump, speaking out about the xenophobia and discriminatory actions that exist in our society. Many are curious if Winfrey will deliver a similar speech, addressing these relevant issues in our society.
There is much to look forward to with this year’s Golden Globes, as many are curious as to how this award show will go down.
The only way to find out is to stay tuned and turn on your televisions to NBC at 8 P.M. Eastern time tonight!
