OOTD | Paisley&Denim

°°Paisley&Denim°°

Today’s outfit of the day is another fairly casual, everyday look for myself, incorporating both paisley and denim.
This is a great casual outfit for running errands, walking your dog, to name a few activities I did while sporting this ‘fit.

The paisley patterned top is my best attempt at incorporating a fun, “Summer-y” trend into my usual day-to-day look. I paired the top with a maroon halter bralette, a pair of light-wash high-waisted jeans, and a black belt bag. I finished the look off with a black bolo-style tassel necklace and a gold star choker.

How To Style High-Waisted Jeans Three Ways

Today, I created three looks, incorporating my favorite pair of high-waisted jeans currently, and a handful of different tops.
These are some great, easy, and almost effortless Summer looks for myself.

High-waisted anything are my jam, but these jeans, pictured below, are definitely going to be a staple in my closet.Processed with VSCO with c1 preset
The high-waisted style of apparel is a very prevalent trend, especially in women’s fashion. As waist lines are rising, one must rise to the occasion.

These high-waisted jeans are quite simplistic and a classic pair of denim that can easily be dressed-up, or dressed-down. So versatile!

Look 1

The first look is quite fun and girly, or it is girly for me. The top incorporates the peplum trend, a trend which I never truly experimented with, because it was quite girly. I hovered back to my safe place with this top by purchasing it in black, my favorite color. While this top is almost out of my comfort zone, it is an easy piece to work with, and not many “fun and girly” pieces are easy to work with and pair with. Fun and girly are great for the Summer, though. I paired the top with two chokers, one gold and one silver, and layered them accordingly.

Look 2

The second look incorporates another “fun and girly” Summer trend. The top I chose to incorporate into this look was a black, velvet tie-top, with a very subtle peplum detail. While velvet is not truly in season during the Summer, a velvet version of a popular Summer trend can always make a velvet piece work for the Summer. I reverted to black, once again, when purchasing this top. I bejeweled this look with two neck pieces. The gold basic choker was layered over the turquoise stone necklace. I love experimenting with the lengths of necklaces and necklines – the longer the neckline, the longer the necklace.
This look is a great, versatile look for the day and the night. Small changes to this look can make this look a great “going-out” look, as well as a simple brunch look.

Look 3

This last look incorporates another major Summer trend, the infamous graphic tee. While I have been on the search for a top similar to this for years, I finally made the leap of faith and purchased this tropical graphic tee from H&M. Graphic tees and high-waisted denim is always the right decision – it can do no wrong.
This look is very casual and a great look to throw on when you cannot find anything else, or do not want to try too hard. Jewelry is super minimal with this look, but incorporating your daily neckwear is always recommended.
Have fun with your graphic tees and find the right ones.

High-waisted jeans ain’t no lie, and regardless of the season, you can always count on them to keep you looking trendy and hip.
Playing with the lengths of the hemline of your top and the waistline of your jeans is always fun, play around with tops of different lengths and see what happens.

What are your favorite ways to wear your high-waisted jeans this Summer?
Have a SUNderful day!

Where Do I Shop?

  1. H&M

    • H&M has become one of my favorite places to go on shopping expenditures. The main attraction to H&M for me was the surplus of basics that were all affordable. For someone who lives in basics, especially basic crop tops, lounge wear, comfortable denim, etc., H&M is basically a heaven-on-Earth.
Their inventory is updated with the trends, offering a cheaper alternative to trends that could otherwise be found at other retailers for less affordable prices.
There is always a little bit of everything to buy at H&M.
While keeping quality in mind is important, H&M seemingly prices their pieces according to quality. This is very important to keep in mind when shopping through H&M.
In regards to focus, their inventory always showcases a wide arrange of trends and styles, eliminating the element of focus at H&M. This almost makes H&M better – let me explain. Their lack of focus in inventory serves as a benefit for a wide-market target audience, as their clothes do not have boundaries and serve to please a wider-range of individual’s personal styles’.
There is a lot going on at H&M, however, they offer that reliability for shoppers, who can assume that H&M has something that suites their style.
For avid shoppers on a budget, H&M is a great venue to experiment with.SWISS-ECONOMY-SALES
  2. Marshall’s / Nordstrom Rack
    • Discounted main brand clothes, ’nuff said. Great quality, main brand clothing at a discounted price is a shopper’s heaven, as well. Marshall’s and Nordstrom Rack’s inventory rarely overlaps, but they both offer similar trends at that discounted price that we all would rather pay. While quality is not a guarantee at H&M, Marshall’s and Nordstrom Rack most often offer a selection of higher quality, longer-lasting clothing that you can depend on for more than one season.
Athletic wear, discounted shoes, and discounted designer clothes are some of my favorite, and my most popular purchases at both locations.
Depending on the weather, I love purchasing some great jackets at Marshall’s and/or Nordstrom Rack – they often offer a wide-range of jackets to suit your needs.

  3. Urban Outfitters
    • Yeah, I know. I have heard it…”Urban Outfitters is overpriced and overrated.”
While this may be true, Urban Outfitters still remains to consistently offer inventory that still catches my attention. The main attraction to Urban Outfitters for me is that it specifically offers clothes that I often consider less basic, and more standout pieces within my wardrobe. I can count on Urban Outfitters to give me an endless amount of fashionable clothing that experiments and tests current fashion trends in new, interesting, and trendy ways.
I also truly enjoy their denim line, BDG, which offers a wide-range assortment of styles of denim, at a semi-elevated price. While the price is not the lowest, it is not the highest either. The quality and the price align perfectly, making it a clean investment that will probably last you a few seasons.
While the price is less than appealing, I am usually willing to make some larger purchases at Urban Outfitters, despite the price.

      • Let me let you in on a secret about my Urban Outfitters’ purchases – Afterpay.
Shoppers meet Afterpay. Afterpay meet shoppers.
This is your new best friend that allows you to pay for your entire Urban Outfitters’ purchase in four separate payments, making your purchase that much more worth it, or affordable.
Afterpay offers a longer list of other retailers they offer their services to, do not be afraid to check it out.jaksldfj
  4. Elison Rd.
    • Elison Rd. is a boutique that offers a wide-range of bohemian-style clothing at a fairly reasonable price. The difference between the boutiques and the other retailers on my list is that Elison Rd.’s inventory has much more of a specific style and client that they are serving, making their customer base a little more selective, and a little less broad. Elison Rd. carries some great brands, such as, Lack of Color, MINKPINK, Brixton, and Quay, to name a few.
I love the way that boutiques carry such beautiful and unique pieces, making it a great stop on my shopping trips to find various unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.
While Elison Rd. is great year-round, their Summer selection of clothes is especially wonderful, as they have some of the cutest, on-trend Summer pieces. I am especially drawn to their jumpsuits and rompers, as those are some of my favorite ways to wear Elison Rd.
Festival pieces are another great reason to shop at Elison Rd., as they have a wide-range of festival-style pieces that are great to wear at a festival, as well as not at a festival.fff
  5. Lizard Thicket
    • Lizard Thicket is the OTHER boutique that I am quite fond of, where I also enjoy purchasing jumpsuits and rompers from. Lizard Thicket carries some of the greatest jumpsuits that I have ever bought, and I will never let myself forget it. I have found some of the most beautiful floral pieces here, as well. Beyond the fact that they carry exceptional jumpsuits, they also have some of the best sales I have ever witnessed. Similarly, they generally have a fairly decent sale section that contains some great stuff. While I may not be drawn to every single item that they carry, I always do find myself having to at least entertain some purchases.
I will warn you that they only carry six sizes of each piece that they have in the store, so if you find something that is your size, grab it! It may not be there next time. The idea of ordering six sizes of each garment does not allow room for much time to debate purchasing an item, especially if it is a super cute piece. Six sizes goes by faster than you think!
Thankfully, you can always count on their online shop to make purchases, without the pressure of having to make an immediate decision about what you are purchasing.ffff

Shopping makes my heart grow fonder, or at least that is what I tell myself.
Where do you guys like to go shopping?

OOTD | Yellow Toned

•••Yellow Toned•••

Today’s outfit consisted of mixing warmer, brighter summer tones and colors, with various basic, black pieces.
With Summer right at our finger tips, every aspect of our lives seems to be figuratively warmer, as well as more fun.

While my favorite outfits often consist of a absence of color, every once in a while, I find myself needing that extra light, extra warmth, and extra brightness that can be found in the depths of my closet, which also lacks much color.

A simple, casual outfit for a warmer day can be summed up for me in a few different words, “crop top” and “high-waisted shorts.” Both crop tops and high-waisted shorts are essentials for me, especially during the Summer.
A pastel yellow tie-hem blouse was my choice of “fun” for the day. The top is airy, which is perfect for the hot Summer days and yellow is currently on-trend. While I do not have any problems with the color yellow, I do find the color to be very bright and vibrant, and as a result, I do not find myself wearing, or shopping, for many yellow pieces of clothing. The color of this particular top was a very light, almost pastel yellow, which is why I was so drawn to buy it. I figured I would give this yellow trend a chance. I also just happen to be a sucker for pastel colors.
The pair of black high-waisted Mom shorts are one of my favorite shorts that I own. The “Mom” style denim, both shorts and jeans, offers a comfortable, more vintage alternative to your average pair of high-waisted denim shorts. I also love them because they are black – no surprise there. Every pair of black high-waisted shorts that I own is my favorite pair of high-waisted shorts that I own, if that is any indication of what my favorite style of short is and what my favorite color is.
The shorts paired perfectly with the yellow top, but then again, what color doesn’t black go well with?
The tie-hem blouse and the high-waisted “Mom” shorts are of totally different styles, but the buttons in both the tie-top and shorts allowed me to successfully create a look incorporating two items of opposite styles.
In addition, both the tie-top blouse and the high-waisted shorts, while vastly different in style, are both subtle, simplistic pieces, not statement pieces, and as a result, do a great job complimenting eachother, or coexisting, rather than clashing with each other. Clashing outfits, or loud outfits, are often a result of pairing two busy statement pieces together. While sometimes, collision outfits can be successful, the success rate is rather low. For the most part, these outfits are either a major hit or a major miss.
To finish off my casual summer-day look, I paired the outfit with some more black, including a black crossbody bag and black slip-on sandals. Jewelry was minimal, as per usual, however, I did incorporate a blue stone choker necklace to lay by itself on my neck.

Generally throughout the Summer, I wear variations of this outfit, incorporating and pairing different cropped tops with different high-waisted shorts.
This is a great example of an outfit that I essentially reuse and recycle ALL SUMMER LONG.

OOTD | Platform For Success

Today’s outfit has indefinitely become one of my most favorite ensembles that I have compiled. This outfit ironically was directly inspired by a very fashion-forward sales associate, who was sporting a very similar look.
Finding direct outfit inspiration and outfit inspiration from a single individual’s outfit is a very exciting experience, as we rummage through our wardrobes, or even clothing racks at your nearest retailers, to compile an outfit that personifies their style, all while illustrating a similar outfit that resembles the original outfit that did more than catch your eye.
The greatest part about taking inspiration from an outfit, or somewhat mimicking an outfit exactly, is that one is able to put their own twist to the inspiring ensemble, creating a very unique variation of the outfit, trend, etc. that you may be mimicing.
My outfit was a very accurate imitation of the trendy sales associate’s outfit, and the resemblance between the two outfits is few. An outsider most certainly would not associate my variation of this trendy sales associate’s outfit, especially upon first glance.
I was careful to incorporate my own style and stay true to my style, however, I did make sure to incorporate specific trends and aspects of the outfit into my own ensemble.
While I cannot take full credit for the originality of this outfit, I will give that sales associate all the credit in the world for all the compliments I received in this outfit.

The trend of layering a crop top, bustier, or bralette over a plain white crop top, was the primary source of inspiration for my outfit. The anonymous sales associate’s outfit and successful utilization of this trend created a surge of pure excitement and pure inspiration within me, as I desperately craved to create my “layered ensemble” to show off in public. My mind immediately began drifting, while simultaneously reminiscing on the years of 2016 and 2017, when this trend reigned a front-running trend for fashion icons and street-walkers to display as part of their outfits. I will admit that I was a victim of using and abusing this trend of layering bralettes, crop tops, etc. over a cropped t-shirt. This trend gives an otherwise one-dimensional piece of clothing another dimension, and just like that a second dimension is created.
And, as we all know, two is ALWAYS better than one.

This outfit quickly became one of my favorite outfits that I have put together this Summer, and while I am no outfit repeater like Lizzie McGuire, I would not be opposed to being seen wearing this exact outfit again. And, I do not say this very often.
Crop tops are an essential for me year-round, especially during the summer.
The majority of my Summer outfits, or ensembles, consists of a fairly basic crop top, sometimes a patterned, or statement crop top, paired with a various shade of high-waisted denim shorts.
This is my “go-to” outfit(s), as you can create many variations of effortless, yet cute outfits, just simply by mixing and matching different crop tops with different high-waisted shorts. While the options are endless, layering crop tops over t-shirts is one of the best and the most effective ways to elevate the look of a crop top, which is not a task very easily achieved.
The white cropped t-shirt works together with the black deep plunging crop top, a night-time top, or a going out top that normally does not see daylight, to create a great, fashion-forward daytime look. The union of the white cropped t-shirt, a daytime piece, and the black deep plunging crop top, a night-time, is successful. This is a great example of situation when opposites attract and have the ability to work cordially, or rather exceptionally well, together. The balancing act creates a fashion-forward look that is neither too casual and bland, or too over-the-top and carniveslque for the daytime.

“Lemme grab the nearest black crop top,” my mind instinctively thinks.
I did exactly that.
This black crop top was made of a very unique material. The deep v-neck black crop top that mimics the silhouette of a bralette and the white t-shirt crop top are created with two totally different fabrics, which gives the crop top duo dimensions and allows for the otherwise (fairly) basic (but, cute) black crop to standout, or pop. While the fabrics practically contrast one another, when paired together, the contrasting fabrics are almost so uncomplimentary that it works. You know the saying, “two wrongs make a right.” Or, maybe you know that “two negatives make a positive.” This is one case where a contradiction works and manages to compliment each other.
The white cotton cropped t-shirt is made of a very light, airy material, which was perfect for the Summer heat. The cropped white t-shirt serves as a backdrop for the main event – the black, edgier crop top. The purpose of the white cropped t-shirt is not to out-do, distract, or underplay the black deep v-neck crop top. Instead, the white cropped shirt’s purpose is to do everything to mold into something that allows for the black crop top to speak for itself. I would even say that the white t-shirt’s role is to compliment the foreground, by blending into a background and working with the main event, or the black crop top.

Yes, I did grab the nearest pair of high-waisted shorts, which just happened to be a vintage style light-wash pair of high-waisted shorts.
I just was going along with the theme of flattery, or complimentary, and the pair of high-waisted shorts play a role similar to that of the white cropped t-shirt, as the goal of the shorts is not to distract eyeballs from the main event, which is still the black deep v-neck crop top that resembles a bralette silhouette. The silhouette of the crop top is rather edgy and makes a statement, and it is incredibly important that the focus stays on the edgy crop top, or the statement piece.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

My favorite part of the whole look are the white platform sandals that are just the right amount of “wow,” without creating a very busy look.
My white platform sandals are one of my favorite statement pieces of the Summer, so it was incredibly important that I paired my clothes right, in order to avoid a busy, messy and distracting look. The last thing anyone wants is for their outfit to lack focus, or at least follow some sort of theme, because outfits that include too many “busy,” or statement, pieces can cause a mess worse than the messes I make in the kitchen.
In order to avoid resembling a “hot mess,” literally and figureatively, I made sure that the platform sandals did not overpower the rest of my outfit.
This outfit utilizes the theme of black and white colors, which are not even colors technically. These hues are found all over my outfit, and as a result, the white statement, platform sandals had the ability to elevate the look of this casual, fairly outfit.
The platforms not only give me height, but they also bring an  element of fun and playful vibes, which Summer fashion is all about.
POWER TO THE PLATFORM. PLATFORM PERSONALITY IS ALWAYS IN.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

In continuation of the black-and-white theme present within my outfit, a black wide brim hat made its’ way onto my head, as it sat dutifully protecting me from the sun part-time. The hat’s full-time job is to elevate my look, by adding a trendy, Summer-y element to the outfit. This hat plays much larger role than many would imagine. The hat plays a vital role, and without the hat the outfit would be rather bland, and completely different.
Without the wide brim hat, the outfit would be far from memorable. In fact, I would find the outfit quite bland and quite confusing, just like Baked Lays. The hat adds another level of personality to the outfit, all while maintaining a mature, trendy, and simplistic look that I was hoping to channel.
The wide brim hat is exciting in a much more different way than the platform sandals are. The platform sandals are just as exciting, spontaneous, and eye-catching as a Summer fling. The wide-brim hat is a much more tamed, domesticated, and silent excitement that one feels when one finds a $1 bill on the ground on accident. Finding the $1 bill may seem underwhelming, however, it still manages to captivate your eyes, steal your attention, and create excitement.
Excitement, or personalities, can be either loud or subtle. Whether you choose a louder or more subtle form of excitement, or personality, to spruce up your life, realize that your levels of excitement, from subtle to loud, do not create any less, or any more of a reaction than one another.
Sometimes, personality and excitement speaks silently, as it unknowingly catches our eyes and holds our attention, without our knowledge or consciousness. In this way, excitement can be sneaky and hard to identify.
Strong statements and strong personalities can be made with even the most silent and muted colors, if only one keeps their mouth shut. Silence can sometimes produce louder and more profound, or more trendy and fashion-forward, statements than loud statement pieces that sound like they are yelling, and perhaps violating your personal bubble space.

Accessories, which includes shoes, play a vital role in the creation of the “statement,” vibe, and personality of an outfit. Pairing an outfit with controversial accessories that just do not work well in complimenting one another can completely destroy the look, or the style, that you were attempting to channel. So, it is incredibly important that you weigh out all your options carefully and remember that sometimes more is less.
As I said before, sometimes less is more than more is more.

An outfit without accessories, or outfits with very minimalistic accessories, can feel muted, boring, and invisible. One could even feel naked without a sufficient amount of accessories.
Accessories, whether you use them in excess or in minute amounts, are incredibly important and can be your biggest asset in creating that compelling and noteworthy look that we all attempting to manifest.
The key to utilizing accessories successfully is learning how to socialize pieces together that ultimately can easily adapt and mold to different styles, occasions, formality, etc., without so much as a fight, or premeditated intentions to make you look bad.
The more difficult pieces, including both clothing, accessories, shoes, etc. require more time, attention, and care, when accessorizing, as learning to balance the different power struggles of statement pieces can be an incredibly difficult task that every one has fallen victim to at least ten times in their life.

You would be surprised with what kind of successful results can come of pairing contrasting and controversial pieces and/or accessories. Many are surprised at how compatible and how much success can come from mixing-and-matching clothes and accessories that exhibit contrasting qualities and styles.

OOTD | Baseball Ready

Since the occasion was a baseball game, I attempted to keep my outfit cute, comfortable, and somewhat casual, while doing a poor job at showing my Rockies’ pride.
My white button down crop top, my floral light-wash high-waisted shorts, paired with a New York Yankees’ baseball hat, a pair of blue reflective sunglasses, a black shoulder bag, and a pair of white platform sneakers was about as sporty as I could get.

Baseball games are a great way to sport a baseball cap, which is what I did. While the game I was attending was a Colorado Rockies’ game, a New York Yankees’ hat is close enough, am I right?
It also was great for protecting me from the intense sunrays.

While light-wash and lighter tones are not normally my forté, Summer is a great season to bring out your lighter washes and experiment with lighter tones.

White is not normally in my wardrobe, but there is something about the Summer that gave me some inspiration to experiment with this light color.
Normally, I would choose black and darker hues over anything, but I took a chance and did not regret it.

Sometimes, you just have to work with what you got.
